Ashley and Alex Step Out To Support Local Program

Last week Ashley and Alex went to the fundraising event in support of the Centro de Reciclajo de Sayulita.  A local non-profit, the Sayulita Recycling Center has been operating for several years doing it's best to reduce waste in town.  We are monthly users and supporters of the program and its efforts.

Trashion Fashion has become the annual fundraising event for the Center where recyclable items are transformed creatively into runway worthy designs. Ashley and Alex had this photo taken as they entered the event and it is certainly a keeper.

Sayulita Days Returns!

The highly anticipated yearly carnival made it's return last week for a brief stay after being absent for the last couple years.  Certainly a sketchy event but something the kids flock to as soon as the rides start going up on the baseball field in the center of town.  Photo by Curt Barter.

Sayulita Plaza Summer 2021

Coming home from summer adventures can sometimes be filled with anxiety.  One never knows what changes, good and bad, have occurred in the few weeks we have been away.  This one, however, was very welcome and made us smile.  Our Plaza received a new paint job and it looks fantastic!  Updates on all summer adventures coming soon.

Spring Has Sprung In Sayulita

Throughout most of the year the Primavera(spring) trees look like any part of the green jungle that surrounds us.  Then, when spring arrives, the trees lose their green leaves and these yellow flowers blossom.  As you look around town it is clear that there are a many of these trees sprinkled around town and only show their presence this time of year.

The view from our rooftop.

Our neighbor's Primavera tree though rooted next door leans mostly over our property.  I am forever cleaning up the front garden, sidewalk and driveway from the leaves and twigs it drops all year but with the coming of spring my attitude towards the tree certainly changes.

The view down our main hallway.

Snow And Agave

Yes, it may be Mexico but it's not all beaches and palm trees.  It snows!

Sayulita Scenes - The SAYULITA Sign

Many Mexican tourists towns that we have visited have a block letter sign like this.  It provides a place for visitors to take a photo with it and post it over their social media and share the image.  It also provides an easy way for a town like Sayulita to market itself.  Rarely is there not a crowd waiting for their moment to take a photo with this sign.  Ashley took this photo the other morning while the normal gathering of tourists waiting for their photo opportunity were no where to be seen due to the Corona virus situation.  Our pueblo!

Sayulita Scenes - The Creeper

So I was just sitting and minding my own business and this guy shows up outside our window and ends up just looking at me.  Then he just sat there and looked at me some more.  Probably one of the critters that likes to poop on roof at the back of the house.

Sayulita Scenes - Alex And Ashley At La Patrona Polo & Equestrian Club

Alex was back at it again competing in San Pancho at La Patrona Polo & Equestrian Club with Pegasus.  Always a nice time on the grounds of the club and hanging out with other "horse parents".  (Yes, Alex is now taller than her mother 😆)

Sayulita Scenes - Early Morning SUP Surf

I cannot tell whether Trace is checking to make sure dad is ok on a demanding day or whether he is making sure I wasn't going to take his wave.  Either way, fun shot of the two of us out early in Sayulita.

Sayulita Scenes - Trace And His SICMaui Rocket Ship

Our family SUP Pro pausing for a spontaneous photo by his mother as he leaves the water here in Sayulita.  Turned out pretty damn good we think.  SICMaui did too since they posted it on their Instagram and Facebook accounts as well.  Needless to say, Trace was pretty stoked to be featured on SIC's social media seen world wide with his new gear!

El Toro - The Celebration Of The Virgin Of Guadelupe

The Celebration of the Virgin of Guadelupe is one of the kid's favorite events in town.  It occurs in early December so it is a bit before the intense high season begins.  As a result it feels more like a "local" festival than one filled with vacationing visitors.  One of the most popular events of the Festival happens at night in the Plaza when a metal wire sculpted "bull" or "Toro" is loaded with fireworks, hoisted overhead and run through the Plaza.  At the same time dozens if not dozens upon dozens of local kids try to out run the Toro as it makes laps around the Plaza shooting sparks along the way.  Depending on the night hundreds of spectators look on and it is absolutely the best kind of chaos that would NEVER happen in the States.

In the red shorts Trace avoids the rush of the Toro.  Photo by Camilla Fuchs.
Great shot of the Toro by Derrick Lundy.
Here is a short video of the awesome chaos by Curt Barter.

Many of the parents we know, including myself, tend to hang out at a local bar with a good view of the Plaza and watch while sipping tequila or some kind of cocktail from the bar.  The week or so long Festival is always a good excuse to hang out later than we usually would on a school night.  Alex and Trace absolutely LOVE it!
