Ally Cat Charters

Ally Cat Charters is a family owned and run business here in Sayulita. The Ally Cat is a beautiful catamaran that sails off the coast of Sayulita and to nearby islands. Included in the trip is a wonderful, knowledgeable, fun crew, lunch and beverages, guided snorkling tours, fishing, sea kayaks, bean bags for lounging, and a beautiful ocean.

We were invited to sail on the fam tour and it was an unforgettable day for everyone on board, especially the children. For them it was a never ending playground.

I Wonder What He's Thinking

I ran across this picture today and just loved it.  Not sure why I didn't really see it before.  Anyways,  I can stare at this picture and so much goes through my mind, like, "I love his hair in this picture, I could just kiss him to death right now, the lighting that morning sure was beautiful,  those sets rolling in sure do look nice (you can see them by his right arm).  But also I am looking at this picture of my son, who is looking over our balcony at the Sayulita surf when the morning light is so beautiful and I want to know what is going through his head.  Since he is five years old and children are so present in the moment he is probably just looking at the surf because that is what we do in the mornings so we can plan our day or he is wondering where the Chachalacas are because they are making a lot of noise and he is pissed because they woke him up and why isn't my yogurt ready.    I, being a complicated, constantly thinking, oh so hopeful mother and adult, hope that he is thinking, "I am so happy,  I am very lucky and grateful that I am able to grow up here, life is wonderful, isn't this beautiful, I really hope that my parents are able to surf today."

He just came over as I was writing this post and saw the picture and I asked him what he was thinking and he said, "  I was just looking at the ocean, looking at the waves", in the sweetest little voice.  I just love the simplicity and innocence of the children.

If that was you, or your child in this picture we would love to hear what you or what you think or hope your child would be thinking.

el Raton

Trace is loosing teeth quickly and his third one which is one of his front teeth is going to come out any second. He really likes to help them along. I think it is because he feels like he is growing up, doesn't every kid love to loose their baby teeth? But I also believe that he wants el Raton to pay him a visit. Here, in Mexico, el Raton or The Tooth Fairy come to visit to take the tooth and leave a few pesos for the lucky niño or niña. Actually Trace could care less about el Raton he is focused on what he is going to buy with the pesos. Money burns a hole in that kids pocket. Yesterday on the beach he chased down a vendor that was selling necklaces so he could buy one with the pesos el Raton already brought for the two other teeth. And the entire conversation went down in Spanish between Trace and the vendor.   He is proudly wearing it in the picture above.

At the rate that he likes to spend money I sure hope that he is successful. Actually, I have no doubt that he will be successful. When he wants something there isn't much that will stand in his way to get it and if there is something standing in his way he will talk it right out of his way. Not talk to it so much that it will go crazy but will manipulate it and twist its brain so it will believe that getting out of the way is the right thing to do.

So, anyway, my baby is growing up! Damn! Though he still loves to cuddle and give lots of hugs and kisses, thank goodness.

Jolyn again

It is that time of the year again. Time to start thinking about spring break, summer, bathing suits, etc...
It has been at least a year now since my last post about my Jolyn Bathing suit and I still love it just as much and more so now for a few reasons...

1) I STILL have my first ever purchased suits and they are still like new.

2) Jolyn has come out with fun new colors and styles

3) Jolyn suits are mix and match. You can even pair them with any other tops or bottoms.

4) Jolyn suits are bomber, bomber, bomber. About a month ago, and I don't know how in the hell this happened, but the fin from my SUP board got caught in the bottoms of my suit. So I am being dragged underwater, attached to a barge by the ass of my bathing suit. I managed to release myself from the board thinking that I would come up bottomless. Not only did I come up with my suit still on but it showed no signs of the trauma that it just went through. Did I mention that this suit is bomber?

If you are an active swimmer, beach goer, surfer, river rafter, pretty much anything to do with hard core water sports and you enjoy a bathing suit that fits, stays on your body, can handle the elements, and does not sag in the bum then this is the suit. This is even you suit if you just want to lay on the beach and look good!

Happy Birthday Dillon

Today is Dillon's 9th Birthday!! And he is doing awesome. It took him and us quite a while to get him adjusted to this climate and figure out what works and what doesn't. He was and still is a very good boy when we are trying experiments or changing things up on him so that he is more comfortable. Twice a day I feed him a mixture of dog food, vegetables, hard boiled egg, rice, fresh raw yellowfin tuna, (he really likes that) or chicken, along with coconut or olive oil and a vitamin E capsule in the mornings. He gets a complete bath after each beach outing, heartguard and frontline once a month, though we have seen an increase in ticks on him. He no longer suffers from bacterial or yeast infections. I groom his hair and nails. He is very fit and trim and has a beautiful coat. He is still not too keen on loud noises and fireworks, but he has learned to protect himself against annoying and/or aggressive local Mexican dogs. He has finally gotten to where we can let him loose on the beach and not worry about where he will go or who he will bother. Today we let him play on the beach while we surfed for about two hours and he found a group of dogs to run around and play with, but he always comes back to make sure we are still in the water and don't leave him. The tourists here love him and want to pet and pet him and he has no qualms about that. He certainly is not nearly as active as he once was, and enjoys just hanging with the family, preferably on the beach. He does moan and groan each time he has to get up or lay down but I am sure we all will when we are his age.  Now all we need to do is to figure out how to get him to stop shedding.

Because he likes to use it too!

Dillon loves to be in the water with us and make sure the kids are safe when surfing

Seriously, he sat there for 30 minutes happy as can be letting the kids bury him.  He got up only when another dog came walking down the beach

Dillon is a happy, happy, done dog

Is There A "Vortex" In Sayulita?

Recently, I've heard of this "Vortex" that apparently exists in Sayulita and throughout Mexico for that matter. From what I am told from a long time resident this ""Vortex-in-Mex" draws people in and pushes people out". Well, we can honestly say that early on we were consistently tested on this "Adventure" and just when the "Vortex" seemed to be about ready to push us out and send us packing we got sucked back into the heart of it and here we stay. During any "Adventure" if you truly believe you are on the right path you will be tested to see if you have what it takes to continue. Someday the "Vortex" may have had enough of us and send us down the road to our next "Adventure" but for now we are happy to be right where we are.
